***Important information about using Raptor with plastics***
Here is some extra advice and information about deciding to use RAPTOR Liner to cover most ATV fenders and components are made of a plastic -
PE....nothing sticks to PE. Even when sanded and an adhesion promoter is applied - RAPTOR, or any other coating, will loose adhesion in a short period of time.
Other flexible plastics, TPO, EDPM, PP, must be cleaned, sanded 220 - 320 and have GRIP 4 applied - then adhesion is quite good.

Frequently asked questions

1. What can tintable RAPTOR be tinted with?

  • Use solvent-based automotive basecoat colours.
  • RAPTOR is compatible with most synthetic COB base coats or 2K acrylic urethanes. Colour can be added by up to 10%  volume.
  • RAPTOR cannot be tinted with water-based polyester or enamel paints.

2. Does the milk colour of RAPTOR change the tint colour?

  • Mostly the colour is not affected when added to RAPTOR Tintable. However once your colour is mixed into RAPTOR, check the colour before spraying and adjust if a colour match is critical.
  • If you choose to use binder system basecoat, ask your paint supplier to leave the binder out of the formulation so it is pure pigment. For best colour match results,  RAPTOR Tintable requires an acrylic-urethane 2K single stage colour.

3. Can RAPTOR be applied over a 2-part Epoxy Primer?

•   As long as the primer is fully cured as per the manufacturers specification, RAPTOR can be applied on top of a properly prepared and sanded 2-part epoxy primer.

4. Can RAPTOR be applied on top of a 2K groundcoat?

•  Yes, the groundcoat must of course be fully cured and properly prepared before applying RAPTOR.

5. Can RAPTOR be applied on top of a powder coat?

  • Yes, RAPTOR can be applied on top of a properly prepared and sanded powder coat.
  • To ensure adhesion, U-POL recommends the use of GRIP #4 when applying on top of a powder coat.

6. Can you use automotive paint masking tape with RAPTOR?

  • Yes, you can use automotive masking tape with RAPTOR.
  • When applying RAPTOR, use automotive paint tape for crisp, clean lines. Wait 60-90 minutes after applying your final coat of RAPTOR to remove the tape. Removing the tape while RAPTOR is still wet and pliable gives you a clean line without ripping or breaking the cured coating.

7. How can I get a matt finish with RAPTOR?

•  There are proprietary matting agents available for other 2K products which are suitable for use in RAPTOR – ask your paint supplier.

8. How do you change the colour after an incorrect colour has been sprayed?

•  If the colours are close, reapply with the correct shade of RAPTOR.

9. How can I get a textured grip finish?

  • Silica Sand is too soft and will wear out / break down too quickly and easily. We recommend our UP4800 traction additive. It is an aluminum oxide based product which is much harder and wear resistant.
  • It is currently being used on mining equipment as well as the ground support equipment for United and American Airlines

10. What is the gloss level of RAPTOR?

•  The gloss level of Black RAPTOR is approximately 10 gloss units, or a satin finish.
